Lead paint / asbestos?

Post by NC SJ 21 » Wed Nov 08, 2017 10:07 pm

I have a late 70’s San Juan and was wondering if I need to worry about lead paint or asbestos? The paint is chipping off everywhere in the interior and I have small kids!

Thanks!

I don't know about the lead, but no asbestos. Where in NC are you?

Cool, I sail on Jordan Lake. Also, my kids were 5 & 7ish when I got my boat and they are not brain damaged, so must not be too strong of paint if it does have lead.

Hello NC SJ21,

We sail SJ21 #2012 out of Greensboro, mostly at Lake Norman. We sail other boats out at Lake Townsend (Yacht Club), also. Have you had your boat there? I don't remember seeing it there.

I’ve been sailing at Blews lake. I’ve bet Lake Norman is a great lake to sail!

This is not too reassuring tbh. I'd remove the paint even if I suspected it could have lead.
