North Americans 2016

There is some news coming out soon. Anyone heard, besides me (and Albertans)? Make your plans soon. I know Greg and some hope to make it up from Klamath so no whining about how far it is. There will be good wind and I'm guessing a lot of beer............
Just sayin'

Hey everyone

Just a follow up to Bill's post. We're working hard to get the web site up and running in the next couple of weeks. In the mean time, here are the critical dates so you can mark you calendars:

The event will take place the weekend of July 7 - 10, 2016, hosted by Glenmore Sailing Club and SJ21 Fleet 28 of Calgary. Our good friends at Newell Sailing Club have graciously offered to act as the host venue. NSC is located within Kinbrook Island Provincial Park on Lake Newell, Alberta. It's about an hour and a half east of Calgary on a divided highway. It's a gorgeous, warm and usually windy lake, and all of us in Calgary look forward to racing there each year.

We'll have a number of boats available for charter - we'll be posting photos and particulars to the regatta web site - and we are working with the class association to ensure that they're all top notch boats brought up to a standard level of fit out. We have a great fleet in Calgary of about 30 SJ21s in total so we have a lot of high quality boats to choose from.

Here's the tentative schedule for the weekend:

THURSDAY JULY 7, 2016
0900 Measurement & Registration
1500 Practice Racing

FRIDAY JULY 8, 2016
1100 COMPETITORS' MEETING
ON CALL FOR RACING*

SATURDAY JULY 9, 2016
0930 ON CALL FOR RACING*

SUNDAY JULY 10, 2016
MAKE UP DAY IF REQUIRED

* Please note that we're going to leave the race schedule flexible so that we can take advantage of the wind when it blows. We quite often get beautiful late afternoon breezes at lake Newell that last until sunset so if conditions warrant we may run some evening races as well.

We'd also like to extend an invitation to all competitors to join us in Calgary during the Stampede for our Wednesday Night racing programme. At that time of year we regularly get 18-20 San Juans on the line and 40-50 boats in total. Sunset at that time of year is around 2300hrs so we get a lot of racing in.

Please contact me or Tim Griggs at our official regatta email address if you'd like any info in advance of our web site going live.
