Re: Main Sheet - Traveller
I've had very little issue with the rope traveler being in "the way" and I can raise the tiller most of the way if needed. I do have a bungee to help hold it up under no load just to keep it out of the way of the tiller and you do sort of need to climb around it to get to the motor, but its not too ...

Re: Main Sheet - Traveller
Simple rope travelers are very nice, I think that most of the top racers in the west are using them. Here's a link to a post that I put on Jim Hubbarts site a while back that shows the system I'm using.

Re: Shroud Tension
I don't spend a lot of time with shroud tension, I just don't want to mess with it, but my general rule is that the inners should feel medium to light and the outers slightly less than that. I don't think this is the ideal tension for speed, but I try and keep them pretty loose as much as I can for ...

Re: Handling Gusty Conditions
Actually Mark I've found that the bridle setup that I'm using works extremely well in very light air as well. The bridle is adjustable on both sides using a simple sliding splice so in really light air I can raise the middle block all the way up to the boom or even higher. This allows me to pull the...

Re: Handling Gusty Conditions
You guys probably won't like my answer to this question. I don't have a a traveler, and I don't think they are really necessary on this boat. The Blue Pearl just has a rope bridle with a fixed block in the middle. This bridle can be adjusted slightly to suit the wind conditions, but not much. My pri...

Re: What would you like to see from this Class/Website?
In a word, yes, you probably fouled him. A finish line isn't really much different than a turning mark or a turning gate and all the same rules apply. Even though you have technically finished, you still need to follow the rules until you have cleared the finishing area and are not interfering with ...

Re: Grid pattern on cabin ceiling
Probably an attempt to fix a delaminated ceiling. Sometimes the bottom layer comes free from the Balsa core. My ceiling has some delamination that I'm going to fix. I give it an A for effort, but its probably not really all that effective in the long run. The better way is to cut the ceiling away in...

Re: 2011 Swiftsure
Thanks Chris. This was a pretty surprising result for us too. Despite a terrible weather forecast, the race was actually pretty nice with a variety of wind conditions and no rain. We started in really light wind and bad current and spent two hours trying not to get flushed into the San Juans. Some b...

Thanks for the report Chris. Sounds like you guys had fun. Hopefully next year the SJ fleet will get the BVI trip. I hope Marc got thrown into the Sound after that result.

Re: Aluminum Keel gasket drawings
I may suggest not using any stalk dimensions if you want to make your own keel gasket. You'd think that the keel slot shape and size would be consistent from boat to boat. Ha! This is the SJ 21 we're talking about! I've put five gaskets on different boats now and none of them fit the same. If you re...
