Great job! Paint the bottom while you have it upside down.

Re: Bow eye above or below roller on trailer?
After losing a wheel on the highway at 65mph, I lost faith in the pitted axle and hubs. I replaced The whole axle for about $150. I had it done at the shop where I bought it and they didn’t charge for installation, including moving the mounting brackets to fit my trailer. I assume for a few dollars ...

Re: Thunderstorms and Sailboats
Not a lot to do but stay away from metal. If it wants you bad enough, it won’t matter, so just take the opportunity to have a drink and enjoy the storm.

Awesome! I saw your sale post. Better to be sailing than fiberglassing. Though I can promise you this is just a reprieve, there will be fiberglassing.

Re: Favorite Brand for new sails
Inner Banks sails out of Oriental did mine and they are great. They are branded Doyle, but cut by Mark Weinheimer. Oriental is a sailing town and the east coast SJs were made up the road in New Bern. I believe Mark won nationals in the SJ class in the past, so he knows these boats. If you are west c...

Re: Import Outboard?
I’m not sure about the import, but that is a lot of engine for an SJ21. My 4hp Yamaha has a long shaft and can push hull speed at 1/4 throttle. I have beat into 20mph wind with no problem. Racers use 2hp for weight concerns. If you are importing to save money, maybe look at a smaller slightly used e...

Re: Bimini?
I used to think a lot about it, but have largely given up. There’s not much room between the boom and the mainsheet. I once considered having my sails altered by having the top foot or two cut off and a batten installed, which would give it a look of a catamaran sail. That will allow you to bring th...

Re: Hull #2555 Restoration Begun
I sewed my own cushion covers for the coffin berths. I never sleep in the v-berth. I got the foam from a local fabric wearhouse and the material on eBay. Bought the sewing machine used for $25. Might have cost $250 in all.

I switched from keel cables to dynemma atv tow lines. something like this:

50' would probably give you two spares.
