Re: Just bought SJ21 Hull #843
I like it! I’ll bet that really lightens it up. Does it do any twisting when you are heeling?

Re: Just bought SJ21 Hull #843
Hey Travis! Did you ever get out on the boat before it got cold? I finally found what rudder that was, it is a Ruddercraft type. They start at around $500. https://store.ruddercraft.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=182_62 I would love to have one of those! The stock rudder on my San Juan is...

Re: Sailing all summer!
Yeah I was getting slight lee helm when I was heeled over all weekend. So this thing can I have a 20 inch mast rake? I know I have not been over 10 inches and in the heavy winds that we had last week I definitely figured that I did not have enough but wow I didn't know you could rake this mask back ...

Sailing all summer!
Sorry I have not been in touch much but I have been at the lake pretty much all summer. She sails! IMG_1507.jpg Sometimes there was hardly any wind as you see above but then came hurricane Florence which brought us whitecaps all weekend. image.jpg4-1.jpg We definitely got her heeled over well all th...

Wow she is in great condition looking at the pics! I don't think it would take much to get her near perfect. Great find for the price. Is that a metal tiller and rudder stem with the shock in it? Someone had definitely set her up nicely for single handed sailing. Awesome!

Re: New owners hull #1629
Hello again jlapp, I hope you have had her out without problems now! Wow she is pretty clean. I am no expert on these SJ21s but I have now personally seen several as they are making their way into Tennessee. Yes somebody definitely did a rear bulkhead re-fit haphazardly. In one of the boats I had so...

Re: Hull #263 in Central Pennsylvania
Hello welcome to the forum! There are still a few of us diehards out here. There is a lot of great info if you skim through the posts. Stephan at http://www.sjsailboats.com/parts.php is basically the only known supplier of parts for these boats in the world so check him out. I used Interlux Brightsi...

Re: Still chugging along!
SHE FLOATS!! IMG_1430.jpg We had her on the water yesterday testing the engine and the keel functions. After patching holes in your transom one always has reservations about floating! CaptureTransoms.JPG Everything went smooth for the most part, the engine is a little finicky, I will have to re-adju...

Re: Still chugging along!
Thanks Kuriti for all of the ideas I 'stole' from you! And thank you all for the inspirations to restore this old boat. I did go ahead and use the 1/8" although I think I might have wanted 1/4" in the end. They seem to be fairly strong but if I get poked possibly by a stiff tree branch...not good: I...
