Re: 2012 St. Petersburg NOODS/SJ Mid-Winter Regatta
Carlton and Aggie, Sorry I will not be able to get Black Jack down for this event. Unfortunately for me it overlaps to much with the Miami International Boatshow which I must attend for work. I have always enjoyed sailing in St. Pete having done a lot of midwinter events there. It is a great venue. ...

Re: Sailing Anyone---
Fleet 8 in New Bern, North Carolina is still racing. We had our second set of races for the fall series last Sunday and will race again this coming Sunday. Racing goes through third week in November ending with the Turkey Trot Regatta. I am really enjoying the series as I am breaking in my new crew ...

Re: Shroud Tension
I have a guide I use for tuning the San Juan 21. It is continually evolving and should only be considered a guide. But I have been successful with these number. wind speed Headstay length Upper shroud Lower shroud 0 to 5 knts Approx 24' 7" 10 - 15 15 - 20 6 - 10 Approx 24' 5 " 15 - 20 20 - 25 11 - 1...

Re: Maiden Voyage
Kuriti, with the recent Hurricane Irene we have been a bit off our schedule, but everything is slowly getting back to normal. We are holding a fun Match race event on October 2 as part of our Fall Sunday racing series supporting our jr sailing program. It is the first time we are holding a match rac...

Re: Shroud Tension
Bob, I agree, I do not keep a lot of tension on the rig as I do not think it is good for these old boats. I turn up the tension on those particular days that I need it, then release the tension soon after. for the most part I work on the lighter side of the tension and it is better to error on the l...

Re: Maiden Voyage
Kuriti, Great post. I am glad your sail went well with the family. That is the first critical step to building the enthusiasm for our sport. Were did you sail in NC? We have a good collection of San Juan 21's here in New Bern so if you ever adventure out this way let me know and we can get together ...

Re: Shroud Tension
I think overall most of our fleet overall does little with rig tune and set up. At least from what I have seen here on on the east coast. I can tell you I have been very successful with tuning my rig for the conditions. I set my rig up specifically for each day I go out sailing. First I choose the h...

Re: Handling Gusty Conditions
Branin, As a followup to your post I had the rig set for what I thought was going to be the average for the day. Basically would trim the main in relation to the tell tails and work the traveller very aggressively through the puffy upwind legs. When I first started sailing SJ 21's I would trim the v...

Re: TomD & Blackjack
The previous owner on my boat also like the reference to the card game. The sail numbers with all the same digits and only the last two reversed between the two boats is an interesting coincidence.
Big weekend coming up with the NA's. Hoping we get a good turn out.
