Re: outboard bracket
I got some HDPE (UV-resistant) plastic scraps from Alro and cut them into wedges to fit my mkII. These replaced some half-rotten wooden wedges that had probably been on the boat 20 years. Teak would last a long time (and be easier to cut than HDPE). I used butyl tape to seal them in place. On a rela...

Re: Boat Lift?
The sling is an interesting idea. I like the thought of the ratchets to fine-tune the fit to the boat. We can get some stiff winds where I keep the boat--how does this arrangement restrict rocking or swaying of the boat under those conditions, or is that not really a concern? Thanks for the idea, Ra...

Re: Outboard Motor
For what it's worth, I have a short shaft Honda 2hp motor (great motor, but not knowing any better thought I was buying a long shaft off Craigslist). I have an adjustable mount (I assume the factory mount is not adjustable). I made some modifications to get it deeper into the water and it works well...

Re: Boat Lift?
End of summer :( update: Well, the lift worked great. Starting from rudder, motor, sails and boom in the cabin, I can be sailing in 15-20 minutes. The hardest part (after reassembling my Craigslist lift--they weren't really meant to be taken apart and reassembled) was adjusting the bunks so that the...

Re: Hull to hull liner repair
Sounds like a good plan. I like West Six10 a lot for the convenience in making fillets and small jobs, but it isn't a bargain. You might also consider adding an access port on the bunk so that you can adhere the back side too.

Mine has a gunwale strap that goes across the cockpit and down both sides to the trailer.

Re: Boat Lift?
I would love to keep the boat on its trailer, mast-up. Our place is about 0.5 miles from an excellent public boat launch. Unfortunately, there is exactly one overhead wire between our place and the launch. I went out with a friend on his Flying Scot last night on an inland lake. That's a sweet boat,...

Boat Lift?
Now that I've already purchased a used ShoreStation to keep my SJ21 on the water while I'm not around, I figured it would be a good time to ask people around here if that's a good idea or not. . . . I've been thinking about this scheme for a while and I can't find any previous similar discussion in ...

Re: decode SJ Hull Number
Maybe January 1974 build date, serial number 773? From Jim Hubbard's old site: HULL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER/SERIAL NUMBER: There are two numbers associated with each boat. One is its legal "serial number", called properly the Hull Identification Number. It is the number on the title of the boat. The H...
