Hull #2549 -- Hello again!
Hi, Toros here... again! So I traded up and in, and wouldn't you know, I found a Mark III only 6 numbers off of mine? This one is requiring far less in restoration. See some pictures below... It looks like this one rolled off the factory floor and preserved in that condition until now. Took her out ...

Re: Thunderstorms and Sailboats
Gman! Please reply to this post noting your safety through the storm. Sailboats are not a place you want to be during a thunderstorm. Had I seen this sooner I would have suggested you get to shore as quickly as possible. My wife and I went out between storm cells and having read the same articles yo...

Re: Hull #2555 Restoration Begun
Thanks kuriti and Gman for your replies! It seems like sewing my own cushions (at least for this year) may be the most economical way to go. First float was successful! I went out in Marsh Creek State Park, despite wind reports, it's notoriously dead there, which is what I wanted for this first sail...

Re: Hull #2555 Restoration Begun
Hey Gman! Thanks for the photo and all the tips! I have a couple thoughts and so many more questions... There is a LOT of chatter on the bulkheads here, and while I agree with the overall consensus, I have a lack of access to raw materials, talent and tools for the metal work to fabricate a replacem...

Bimini?
Has anyone used a bimini on their San Juan before? I haven't rigged her fully yet (tracking to this Saturday) and was thinking the boom position may be adjustable, or high enough to allow for a bimini at least while motoring. Googling revealed some photos, but would love to hear about San Juan skipp...

Re: Hull #2555 Restoration Begun
Okay! Progress has been made today... BULKHEADS: I got myself a sheet of Marine Plywood and used the old bulkheads to trace out new ones. I'm not sure how permanent this setup will be, I've not treated the plywood yet. But, in accordance with my restoration plan, I needed them to rig up the mast. I ...

Re: New San Juan Mark III Caretaker #2555
do you want to sleep over your poop? I literally cried laughing when I read this! No, I do not lol The way I see it, there are three bunks remaining, port side coffin bunk and the V-Berth for sleeping arrangements. Also, while that fancy seat on the bucket is not at all an issue for me, my wife wan...

Re: New San Juan Mark III Caretaker #2555
In addition, make sure you adjust the bunks on your trailer, or add some. When I bought mine it was sitting on a pair of 4-5' bunks, and now it's sitting on 4 8' 2x4 bunks... I went with 2x4's since they flex a lot easier than a 2x6, and a full 8' length to lend a lot more support to the entire hul...
